Gibberellic acid (gibberellins), a kind of high efficiency plant growth regulator product, can promote the elongation of cells and stems, increase plant height and accelerate the physiological and viral dwarfing plants growth; break the dormancy of some vegetable seeds, tubers, bulbs and other organs, improve the germination rate, take effect in vernalization and long-day as well as promote and induce the blossom of the long-day vegetables; promote the fruit setting, fruit retention and fruit growth development. Besides, gibberellic acid will have more prominent effect under low temperature, drought, dim light or the short-day and other adversity conditions.

Preparation of gibberellic acid dosage forms and its mother liquor

Gibberellic acid dosage forms include 85 percents of crystal powder, 4 percents of emulsifiable concentrate and 10mg tablets. As emulsifiable concentrate and tablet are soluble in water, they can be directly compounded and used. Powder is insoluble in water and soluble in the alcohol, therefore, in the preparation process, 1mg crystal powder should be put in the measuring cylinder and dissolve the powder by adding a small amount of alcohol or high concentration of white spirit, afterwards, dilute it with water to the volume of 1000ML, thus 1000mg/kg giberellic acid mother liquor can be obtained. When compounding a medicine, no heating is allowed and the water temperature should not be more than 50 degrees Celsius. When using the medicine, take the mother liquor according to the required concentration.

The application technology of gibberellic acid on the vegetables

Gibberellic acid can delay senility and retain freshness. Before the harvest of cucumber, spray it with the concentration of 25-35mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time, which can extend the storage time. Before the harvest of watermelon, spray it with the concentration of 25-35mg/kg gibberellic acid solution, which can also help to extend the storage time. Soak the garlic root with the concentration of 40-50mg/kg gibberellic acid solution 10-30mins a time, which can help to inhibit the upward transport of organic matter and retain freshness.

Gibberellic acid can protect the flower and fruit as well as promote the fruit growth. Spray the flower of tomato with the concentration of 25-35mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the florescence, which can promote the fruit set and prevent empty fruit. Spray the flower of eggplant with the concentration of 25-35mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the florescence, which can promote the fruit set and increase production. Spray the flower of pepper with the concentration of 25-40mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the florescence, which can promote the fruit set and increase production. Spray the flower of watermelon with the concentration of 20mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the florescence, which can promote the fruit set and increase production, or spray the fruit in the young fruit stage one time, which can also increase the production. Spray the flower of cucumber with the concentration of 70-80mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the florescence, which can promote the fruit set. Spray the fruit with the concentration of 35-50mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the young fruit stage, which can promote the fruit growth Spray the fruit of wax gourd with the concentration of 30mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the young fruit stage, which can promote the fruit growth. Spray the fruit of melon with the concentration of 30-35mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the young fruit stage, which can promote the fruit growth. Spray the fruit of snake melon with the concentration of 35mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the young fruit stage, which can promote the fruit growth. Spray the fruit of pumpkin with the concentration of 25-30mg/kg gibberellic acid solution one time in the young fruit stage, which can promote the fruit growth.

Gibberellic acid can induce the male flower and improve the output of seed production. Spray the cucumber in the seedling stage of 2-6 true leaves with the concentration of 50-100mg/kg, which can reduce the female flower and increase the male flower quantity. With the increasing of the concentration, the male flower number will also increase, while the female flower number will be reduced. If gibberellic acid is used on the cucumber that has full female flower, male flower will be given off in the plant and become monoecism, which can breed gynoecious type cucumber variety by selfing. This will help to preserve the cucumber variety and cultivate the filial generation.

Gibberellic acid can promote bolting and improve the breeding coefficient of certified breed. Spray the plant or drop the growing point with the concentration of 50-500mg/kg gibberellic acid solution, which can promote the bolting of carrots, cabbage, radish, celery, Chinese cabbage and other biennial long-day crops under the short-day conditions before winter.

Gibberellic acid can break dormancy. Asparagus lettuce seeds will sprout after being soaked with   the concentration of 200mg/kg gibberellic acid solution for 24 hours at 30 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. This method is more convenient than the folk method in which the seeds are hung in the deep well, which also has stable germination rate. In order to break the potato tuber dormancy, the concentration of 0.5-2mg/kg gibberellic acid solution can be used to soak the potato slices for 10-15mins, or soak the whole potato 30mins with the concentration of 5-15mg/kg, in which lower concentration of gibberellic acid solution is used in those kinds of potato that have short dormancy stage and higher concentration of gibberellic acid solution is used in the potato that has long dormancy stage. In order to break the dormancy of strawberry plants, 5ML gibberellic acid solution with the concentration of 5-10mg/kg can be sprayed on each of the plant after closing the greenhouse and preserve the heat in 3 days (more than 30 percents of flower buds have been given off) under conditions of strawberry greenhouse forcing culture and semi forcing culture. It should be mainly sprayed on the interior leaves, thus the top inflorescence will bloom ahead of time as well as the plant will grow quickly and become mature early.

Gibberellic acid is the antagonist of multi-effect triazole, chlormequat chloride and other inhibitors. 20mg/kg gibberellic acid plant growth solution can relieve the damage caused by tomatoes that sprayed with too many PCPA.

In addition, it can promote the vegetative growth and plant maturity when used in the celery, Chinese chives, Chinese parsley, amaranth, spinach and other leafy vegetables. By soaking the material block with gibberellic acid in the process of forming mushroom primordium, its sporocarp will enlarge and increase the output, however, due to the requirements of pollution-free vegetable production currently, it is generally forbidden to use.

Attentions in using gibberellic acid

Gibberellic acid cannot be used with alkaline substances, but it can be used with acidity, neutral fertilizer and pesticide. Meanwhile, it will have better yield-increasing effect when used with urea. As its aqueous solution is easy to dissolve, it should not be stored for too long and should be used up once compounded; gibberellic acid can have good effect only under the conditions of sufficient fertilizer and water supply, which cannot replace the fertilizer; its working concentration and working time should be mastered as the plant will have spindling and albefaction until it becomes malformation or wither when the concentration is too high, besides, the effect will not be obvious when the concentration is too low; the fluid volume will vary in different size and density of the plants, generally, the fluid volume should not be less than 50kgs per acre every time.
