Plant growth regulator has many usages. By applying plant growth regulator to the flower production, it can not only promote flower growth, control plant appearance, induce blossoming and bearing fruit, prevent blossom disease and falling off, but also can obviously improve planting benefit.

Plant growth regulator can be used in promoting the cutting, cultivation and rooting of plants, which mainly reflects in the following three aspects: a. it can stimulate the cutting rooting, which means that it can promote the formation of root primordium in the cutting base and accelerate the rooting speed; b. it can promote the rooting of plant that has been transplanted, which means that it can activate the activity of root primordium, induce rapid rooting and improve the survival rate of transplantation, such as root motivation; c. it can be used in layering rooting. Layering is often used in breeding the variety that cannot take root or is very difficult to take root.

Root that is induced by naphthylacetic acid will become short and thick as well as will appear to be brush shape. While the adventitious root that is induced by indolebutyric acid will become thin and long, therefore, by combining these two kinds of plant growth regulators, the rooting effect will be best; daminozide, heteroauxin, naphthalene acetamide and 6-ba also can promote rooting. Except for the matching of the above main materials, the cofactors, such as vitamin, sugar, sanitizer and penetrant, they will also have very important effect on rooting. Rooting agents that have guaranteed quality and are well-known to us all have been used for years in the production practice. Besides, they all have reasonable matching and are added with various materials that contain cofactor. For example, in the transplanting of big trees, special “root motivation” is used in promoting the survival of trees. In the production practice, naphthylacetic acid, heteroauxin, daminozide and other plant growth regulators are used in the cutting and rooting of oriental arborvitae, Japan euonymus, azalea, cyclamen, poinsettia, geranium, aspen, birch, elm, Chinese pink and chrysanthemum. When using the rooting products, the concentrations should be used reasonably as the high concentration will inhibit rooting and low concentration will have no rooting effect.

Plant growth regulator can not only break the seed dormancy and promote seed germination, but also can enhance the stress tolerance of flowers as well as improve output and quality. Under general conditions, plant growth regulator can play its effect by seed dressing, being coated on the seed, soaking, spraying in the form of solution, pouring into soil, smearing and other approaches.

The application of plant growth regulator on adjusting flower season of flowers and trees

Plant growth regulator has the same effect of sunlight. Usually, long-day flowers will be difficult to blossom under short day and short-day flowers will be difficult to blossom under long day. By stimulating the growing point with gibberellin for several times, the long-day flowers will differentiate the flower bud under short day and will blossom ahead of time, besides, the short-day flowers will delay flowering.

Plant growth regulator can break dormancy and replace the effect of low temperature. Before 60-75 days of flowering, by spraying 25mg/kg gibberellin on cyclamen, it will blossom ahead of time; by soaking the tulip bulb with 100-150mg/kg gibberellin, it will have the same effect with low temperature and will promote flowering and increase the anthocaulus. In addition, NAA and 2,4-D can also break the dormancy of flower bud and reserve organ as well as promote flowering ahead of time.

Plant growth regulator can promote the flower bud differentiation and stimulate the flowering ahead of time. By spraying 0.25 percents of chlormequat chloride on the soil, pelargonium will blossom 7 days in advance; by watering root with 500-700ppm paclobutrazol, it can promote the flowering of camellia; by watering soil with 8000mg/kg chlormequat chloride one time in three weeks and totally in three times, it can promote the flowering of gladiolus and begonia; by watering 1000-2000mg/kg ethephon on hyacinth and narcissus, they will blossom ahead of time; by spraying 5000mg/kg B9 on the blade surface, bougainvillea speetabilis will blossom ahead of time under 8 hours of short day.

Plant growth regulator can delay flowering. By spraying B9 on the azalea flower bud 1 to 2 months before flowering, it can delay flowering in 10 days; by spraying 100-500mg/kg NAA or gibberellin on chrysanthemum, it can delay flowering and flower season; by spraying 40mg/kg gibberellin on poinsettia one time every week under short day, it can delay flowering.
