The Development of Abamectin Market
Abamectin is currently the most popular and most competitive new bio-pesticide product on sale. It is new antibiotic bio-pesticides and 16-membered ring macrolide compound with insecticidal, acaricidal, nematicidal activity produced by fermentation of griseus streptomyces avermitilis. The original drug is white or yellowish-white crystalline powder with the active ingredient content of 75%~80% at room temperature, not easy to break down, nor decomposition phenomenon in pH 6-9 solutions at 25°C.
In the late 1980s, China obtained 7501 bacterial strain by isolation and screening from soil, later it was proved that the strain has the same chemical structure with abamectin; in 1993, it was put into project research and production. Since 1995, exports of Chinese abamectin production have accounted for 30-40%.

As a new antibiotic bio-pesticide, abamectin has many characteristics such as novel structure, efficient, safe, livestock dual, also one of the current most popular new bio-pesticide products on sale. First of all, it has a unique mechanism of action which is difficult to cause pest resistance. Abamectin’s action target body is r-aminobutyric acid in the insect peripheral nervous system receptors and can promote it to release from nerve endings and enhance binding between amino acid and receptors on the cell membrane, thereby the chloride ion in cells increase, and the cell membrane hyperpolarize, leading to inhibition of neuronal signal transmission, resulting in paralysis, death. This unique mechanism of action won’t cause pest resistance easily, no cross-resistance to other pesticides, so it can effectively kill other pests that have pesticide resistance.
Secondly, the insecticidal spectrum is broad. Currently there are 84 species of abamectin insecticide spectrum, which can effectively prevent diptera, homoptera, coleoptera and lepidoptera pests and a variety of mites, such as citrus rust mite (rust tick), citrus mite, citrus bud gall mite, aceria sheldoni, spotted leaf mite, mite tea and a half tablets, arrowhead Diaspididae and real hard thrips; cotton mites and leafminer, cotton armyworm; ornamental plants the leafminer, thrips, aphid small classes, green peach aphid; vegetable leafminer larvae, caterpillar, leaf moth; potato beetle; fruit mites, buckler kuwana, pear psylla and tobacco budworm, day night, whiteflies and other 80 kinds of mites and insects.
Finally, abamectin has high biological activity. Abamectin has contact-kill and stomach poisoning action against insects, no systemic action, but strong penetration. After the spraying on leaf, liquid rapidly infiltrates to the plant, forming of numerous tiny sacs within the mesophyll, which can laterally conduct in plants, with high insecticidal activity, 5-50 times higher than commonly used pesticides. Adult mites, and insect larvae, nymphs will become paralyzed, inactive, food refusal, death within 2-4 days after contacting abamectin.
